Following the revelation of his Shakespeare forgeries, and the publication of his Confessions... (London, 1805), William Henry Ireland (1775-1835) produced a plethora of works under numerous pseudonyms. The two present works are attempts at popular pieces in imitation of Robert Bloomfield's immensely successful pastoral poem The Farmer's Boy (London, 1796); both initially issued by Bloomfield's publisher in an intentionally similar format and style. .
