Sobre este artículo

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

Martha Grimes: Grimes is one of the few authors still producing the traditional British detective novel. Her main hero is Richard Jury of Scotland Yard, who has appeared in twenty five darkly humorous novels thus far. Grimes has produced ten other novels, including two short series, one collection of short stories, and one work of nonfiction. This is the ninth novel in the Richard Jury series. The Jury series first appeared in 1981 and the most recent was released in 2019.

Susan Dunlap: Californian Susan Dunlap has published 25 novels and three collections of short stories. She writes in two genres, mystery and romance. Her novels, save one, are in one of four series, the longest of which is the Jill Smith Mystery series of ten books. This is the fifth of ten Jill Smith Mysteries.

Michael Underwood: Michael Underwood was the pen name of British writer John Michael Evelyn, who passed away in 1992. He penned 48 novels, of which eight were stand-alone novels and the rest featured one of five recurring investigators. The largest series featured Rose Epton as the sleuth (16). This is the ninth Rose Epton novel.

Sinopsis

When a dismembered corpse is found in the compartments of an antique secretaire a abattant, Marshall Trueblood, recipient of the precious piece of furniture, is the first to protest: "I bought the desk, not the body, send it back." Who would want to kill Simon Lean, the greedy nephew of the wealthy Lady Summerston? Leave it to Superintendent Richard Jury of Scotland Yard to suggest a connection to the murder of brassy Limehouse lady named Sadie Driver, found dead near Wapping Old Stairs...if that stone-cold body on the slipway is really Sadie. Not even her brother, Tommy, on a visit from Gravesend, can swear to it.
