Hardcover bound in tan cloth titled in gilt on spine and in gilt within a gilt ruled dark blue panel on the front cover. The covers are bumped and lightly soiledand the spine is darkened. xiv, [ii] & 310 pages with black & white illustrations. There is a previous owner's inscription penned on the front endpaper and some occasional light soiling. Very good. <p>First edition in English, published simultaneously with the French edition.<p>Dreyfus relates the events of his life from his arrest and his first court-martial for treason in 1894, through his imprisonment in French Guiana, to his return to France and the Rennes court-martial in 1899. Dreyfus writes in an introductory note: "In the folowing pages I tell the story of my life during those five years in which I was cut off from the world of the living. The events which took place in France in connection with the trial of 1894, and during the following years, remained entirely unknown to me until the trial at Rennes."
