But, before it goes to auction a gifted young picture restorer is given the task of cleaning it. She is disconcerted to find under a layer of paint the words "Who killed the Knight?" ? A chess player by working backward from the game depicted , identifies one noble player, who had met a violent death, now there are more deaths, including the ex lover of the restorer. Accident? Murder? Translated from the Spanish by Margaret Jull Costa Rubbing of the back strip edges and of the book corners and there is a bump to the lower left-hand corner of the front panel. Tanning and scattered fine foxing of the text block edges with age toning of the pages. A little creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing of the panels. Second Edition.
