Cover is faded, inner materials are in good condition,clean, not marked or notated. printed on special paper in Japan for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, has continuous fold out pages like one might find in Japan and is loaded with colorful butterflies. I am showing a view of the slipcase. The book itself has blue cloth boards with a white paper label applied to the front board with Japanese writing on it. Reprint of original work published in Japan 1904-facsimile copy of a book in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art [under the title 'Chosenchu'], a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Holme. It is printed on specially-made paper and bound in Japan by Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. The modern calligraphy is George Laws ... [T]he original title page includes the information that 'One thousand kinds of butterflies' was printed on April 5, 1904, in Kyoto, Japan. Kanzaka Sekka made the woodblock illustrations; the publishing house was Yamade Unsodo [Yamada Unsodo]"-- .An accordion book featuring facsimile reproductions of Kanzaka Sekka's butterfly woodblock illustrations, attached to cloth over boards at either end. Paper labels with calligraphy are attached to both boards. Issued in an illustrated paper slipcase. Pub. 1979 52 unnumbered pages : chiefly color illustrations ; 26 cm- book is meant to be read from the back to the front like other Japanese books and is so beautiful. Even the end-papers are exquisite.
