New York: Limited Editions Club, 1985. First edition thus. Hardcovers. Number 658 from an edition of 1000 copies that were printed at Wild Carrot Letterpress. A novel from the winner of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Literature which was previously published in 1978 This attractive limited edition features the text of Grass's novel as translated by Ralph Manheim and accompanied by illustrations by Grass as well. All three books are in very near fine condition in cloth boards with eel skin spines and in a very good lightly soiled cloth covered slipcase that has some scratches and light wear. No dust jackets as issued. Signed by Grass at the colophon in volume 3. This is a heavy and oversized set and will require extra shipping.
Sinopsis
It all begins in the Stone Age, when a talking fish is caught by a fisherman at the very spot where millennia later Grass's home town, Danzig, will arise. Like the fish, the fisherman is immortal, and down through the ages they move together.
