Sobre este artículo
New-York: D. Appleton and Co, 1854. Very Good. New-York: D. Appleton & Co., 1854. "Ninth Thousand." Octavo; publisher's green blind-embossed cloth, gilt-lettered spine; x,330,[18](ads)pp.; frontispiece, three leaves of plates. Shallow chipping to spine ends, cloth extremities rather discolored and toned, spine faded to tan and gilt rather dulled, light soil to upper cover, mid-20th century ownership rubberstamp to front pastedown, contemporary bookseller pressure stamp to title page, plates quite browned due to inferior paper quality, a few interior leaves wrinkled; nevertheless, a Good to Very Good copy, better than often seen.
The author's only work of fiction, a series of humorous sketches of "backwoods society" based on his own experiences as a "fortune-seeker" in the American South (see the DAB 1, pp. 538-9). See also BAL 580 and WRIGHT II 199 for the first (1853) edition.
