Sobre este artículo
New York: Military Heritage Press, 1988. Reprint edition, First printing thus [stated]. Hardcover. Very good/Good. 320, [4] pages. Illustrations. Occasional footnotes. Note on the Sources. Notes. Selected Bibliography. Index. DJ has wear and soiling. Cecil Currey was born November 29, 1932. He became full Professor of History at the University of South Florida, teaching from 1967, until retiring Professor Emeritus in 2002. Dr. Currey authored many books on US history, Benjamin Franklin, early American history, Vietnam War and Military history, often serving as a local expert/analyst on radio and news television shows. Colonel Currey served two years active duty in the US Army, followed by service in the Florida National Guard and US Army Reserve until he retired as a Colonel from the Chaplain Corps in 1992. In November 1944, the 28th Infantry Division, under inept commanders, was ordered to attack the Germans in the Hurtgen Forest near the Siegfried Line. Resistance was fierce. The American infantryman, though courageous, were demoralized by cold, hunger, exhaustion, and fear. They broke and ran. Ten percent losses would have been considered unacceptably high, but American casualties climbed to seventy-five percent. Now, from access to recent declassified documents and firsthand testimony from both German and American survivors, the virtual destruction of an American division in one of World War II's most costly and useless attacked is revealed in detail to the General public for the first time.
