Sobre este artículo

London: Routledge & Co., 1857. iv, 411pp, [1]. Recent calf-backed marbled paper boards, ruled and lettered in gilt. Minor shelf-wear, spine sunned. Inked ownership inscription of William St. Clair to recto of FFEP. The second edition of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's (1797-1851) fifth published novel. The Fortunes of Perkin Warbeck (1830) is set in the fifteenth century, and presents a retelling of the events surrounding the struggles of titular character, who claimed to be Richard, Duke of York, to wrest the English throne from Henry VII. Although it portrays Henry as ruthless and manipulative and Richard as seemingly idealistic and caring, the novel enunciates Shelley's philosophy that, in the end, there is little difference between men who destroy nations in the interest of their own power. William St. Clair (1937-2021), British scholar and senior civil servant, notable as the author of The Godwins and the Shelleys, The Biography of a Family (1989) and The Reading Nation in the Romantic Period (2004). . Second edition. 8vo.

Antiquates Ltd

Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.

Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.

We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.

We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
