London: Grant Richards. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Landscape. Bedford, F.D.; Lucas, E.V. 103pp. 4to. landscape shaped. First edition [1903]. Illustrated by F.D.Bedford and E.V.Lucas and published by Grant Richards. Original publisher's brick-red cloth over paper-covered hard boards. A very good or very good minus copy. Twenty four illustrated examples of working folk (and a horse) - known as toilers to include an ostler and a stevedore. A contemporary pencil inscription of an H. J. Davies to the front paste-down which could be rubbed out. Mostly light scattered finger soiling - for the very most part - not heavy. Splitting to both inner hinges though the the boards remain firm and the gatherings are little shaken. No endpapers - probably as published. Rubbing, shelf wear and predominantly dust-soiling to the boards. A very good or very good minus essentially tight largely clean copy of this charming book.
