New York: International Publishers, 1948 Book. Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 in.. Original dark green cloth over boards with gilt lettering on spine. Top and bottom of spine edgeworn, and spine is age-darkened. Binding strong and tight. Some pages has small stains not affecting text. Herbert Hoover called the author "The most dangerous Communist in the United States." Aptheker's interest in black history began in his teens, after accompanying his father to the South on a business trip, and observing the oppression of African Americans there. He was also anti-war, although he served in WWII as commander of an all-black artillery unit. 256 pp..
