Purple boards, faded at the top edge, with gilt lettering on the spine. Square and firmly bound, a few pages with a small indent on the fore-edge, clean otherwise. A relatively early printing of Fowles's third novel, one about the Victorian romance between Charles Smithson and Sarah Woodruff. Adapted into the 1981 film of the same title starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons.
