London, Charles Knight & Co., 1844. Four Volumes, Hardback, 7.25 x 5 inches. Halfbound in red polished morocco leather fine binding by “Morrell.” Marbled paper to board with gilt line edging. Raised and gilt banding to spines with full gilt decorations and lettering. Marbled endpapers and page edges. In very good condition. Paper on boards rubbed, paper chipped on edge of rear board on vol.1. Leading corners a little bumped and chipped. Some minor light foxing to blank prelims, a couple of minor handling marks else pages and plates overall very clean and tight. One plate in vol.1, p35, and vol.2, p59, darkened and moderately foxed, both lack tissue guards (all other plates guarded.) Else a very good clean and tight set. 4 vols: 318, 324, 319, 348pp. Illustrated with many B&W engraved portraits including frontispieces (Napoleon Vol.4) and with many B&W woodcut illustrations throughout text (including full-page.)
