Olive green/brown cloth with titles in gilt on spine and front cover together with a circular relief in gilt on front cover. Condition: Fair, covers are lightly shelfworn with slightly more wear to head and tail of spine, and sunning to spine. Bookplate of John Vinycomb (1833-1928), the Newcastle born artistic director of Marcus Ward in Belfast and an international expert in heraldry, on front pastedown. Authors presentation inscription on title page to John Vinycomb. Browning to endpapers. Binding cracked in a couple of places, otherwise sound. Some cockling to text and plates towards the end of the book. 72pp. Four tipped in colour plates and thirty-one half-tone illustrations of Italian and other fresco paintings. Also enclosed with the book is a presentation letter from the author to John Vinycomb dated 1909, and printed copies of two papers on mural decoration given by John Ward, one at the Society of Art Masters Annual meeting on August 2, 1906, and the other to the department of agriculture and technical instruction for Ireland, c.1912. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
