Germany: Auf Kosten Des Verfassers (By the Author). Very Good with no dust jacket. 1796. Presumed 1st Edition. Hardcover. Attractively bound in half leather (spine and corners) with speckled paper-covered boards. 5 raises bands to the pine with gilt banding and gilt floral decorations to each compartment, and a gilt title label. Some rubbling to the extremities as to be expected but hinges sound and overall near VG. All edges red, marbled endpapers, with an integral green ribbon marker inside. (2) + 214 pp. This copy belonged to a member of the VIVIAN family of Swansea and has the name of 'John Henry Vivian' (and the brother of Hussey Vivian, 1st Baron Vivian) written neatly in script in old ink on the top of the front free endpaper. TEXT IN GERMAN. AS far as I can gather this was published as a 'counterpart' to Knigges' most famous sociological work - "Umgang Mit Menschen". Amongst other things this is a Confrontation with (or Reply to) Knigge & his attitude to the Illuminati order. Quite scarce. See Images ; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 216 pages .
