Mikhail Bakhtin was a Russian philosopher and literary critic who is credited with introducing the concept of dialogism. He was arrested by the Soviet secret police due to his association with Vorskresenie and exiled to Kazakhstan, but returned to Moscow in 1940. He submitted his dissertation of François Rabelais, which became a classic of renaissance studies.
