No owner inscrptn.Bright,crisp,clean vibrant colour pictorial artwork to front cover by Jack COGGINS,with red+ black lettering,with dual-pricing (US 35c/UK 2/-),rear cover with b/w+red British advert; with some negligible shelf-wear or creasing to corners (front top+bottom) - no major nicks or tears present.British adverts to insides of both covers.Some inevitable,but minimal creasing to the spine/ backstrip and it's gutter's edge on front cover - but no cracking - and generally sharp-cornered covers.Top+fore-edges ubiquitously aged/toned; contents bright,tight,clean with some page-edge toning,solid and sound without any cracking,i.e. pages completely glued to spine and in situ without any loose/detached pages.Book has obviously been carefully read and is without any intentional reading nor accidental dog-ear creases,to any pages' corners; though a tiny snick to bottom edge of pp125/6.UK,slim 12mo Digest,1st edn,1-160pp [paginated] includes a contents list/table,an editorial,3 novelettes by various authors: Clifford D. Galaxy Science Fiction novels are sturdy,inexpensive editions of choice works in this field,both original and reprint (though earliest issues categorically stated 'ALL ORIGINAL STORIES NO REPRINTS!',selected by the editors of 'Galaxy Magazine'.
Published from 1950 to 1980,it was founded by an Italian company,World Editions,which was looking to break into the American market.World Editions hired as editor H. L. Gold,who rapidly made Galaxy the leading science fiction (sf) magazine of its time,focusing on stories about social issues rather than technology.Gold was editor until 1962 giving way to Frederik Pohl.
Several British editions of Galaxy were produced.From 1953 to 1962 Strato Publications published 94 numbered issues.
The early issues were labeled Vol.3 No.1 to No.12.With the 13th issue the "Vol.3" was dropped.Until issue No.72 (February 1959) they were shortened versions of the US edition, with one or more stories or features being cut.From issue No.72,Strato reprinted the full US issue with a different title page,and from issue No.80 the US edition was used with a variant cover.In 1967 a British edition appeared from Gold Star Publications; there were five bi-monthly issues,identical to the US edition dated six months previously.The British issues were dated January/ February 1967 through September/October 1967; the corresponding US issues were June, August, October,and December 1966,and February 1967.British publisher Universal-Tandem Publishing Co Ltd published 25 issues of Galaxy in the UK; the original US issues were May/June 1972 to January 1975.These were re-covered for UK distribution.The numbering was erratic: it ran 1-10,then 11,11,12,12,12,14,and finally 17-25.
