Illustrated with 4 Engraved Portraits - 12mo, full green calf (bumped, rubbed, scuffed; leather slightly chipped at corners); titled & decorated in gilt on spine with blind-stamped decorations within central panel and outer floral decorated frame in gilt on covers; marbled edges (rubbed). 240 pages (a very few minor stains; browning to last few leaves; tiny piece out from corner of one plate and small piece out from bottom edge of one leaf). Illustrated with 4 engraved portraits, each above a small vignette depicting a scene from the life of the pictured child. A very good copy of this delightful and unusual book. <p>Very scarce.<p>Biographies of individuals who came into prominence as children. Includes Kang-Hi, who ascended to the throne of China at the age of 8, Marie Stuart, Louis XIV, Sylvine d'Aubencourt, Napoleon II, Don Carlos, Torquato Tasso, etc.
