Sobre este artículo

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1947. Stated first edition, 1947. Good in worn dustjacket. Novel set in postwar Italy. Black cloth printed in blue and gilt, illustrated dustjacket. The book is in good to very good condition with modest shelfwear, good hinges, sound text block, age-yellowed but clean pages, no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped [3.00] and is in fair condition with the rear inner flap detached but held in place by the mylar, numerous small chips with none really affecting lettering or design, rear panel age-darkened, fairly little paper loss.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Sinopsis

John Horne Burns (1916-1953) attended Andover and Harvard and then served in military intelligence during World War II. He wrote two more novels after The Gallery — Lucifer With a Book and A Cry of Children —but both met with a cold critical reception. He drank himself to death in Florence while still in his thirties. Paul Fussell (1924–2012) was the author of many books on war and twentieth-century culture, including The Great War and Modern Memory , which won the National Book Award. His memoir Doing Battle: The Making of a Skeptic chronicles the time he spent fighting with the 103rd infantry division in World War II.
