Written under the psuedonym Barbara Vine - the name deriving from her own middle name and her great grandmother's maiden name.A totla of 14 novels written under this pseudonym. Visually the exterior appearance is more than accepatble for a book of it's age,and even internally, the book is in an exceptional condition/ state of preservation and presentation. It is only the minor exterior faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading for the book overall.Despite those,it really is an exceptional copy for brightness and cleanliness. Occupying the same territory as her psychological crime novels, but developing themes of human misunderstandings and the unintended consequences of family secrets and hidden crimes. Sandor comes from a wealthy home and is highly educated.Joe, longing for a friend, falls under his spell. Some years earlier,Sandor had taken part in the kidnapping of a former model,Nina. He now plans to kidnap her again so that they can live together. At present,Nina lives in a heavily guarded residence with her husband and many servants.Eventually,Joe's colourful stepsister, Tilly,is also dragged into the plot. However, things don't turn out as Sandor had planned. Most of the story is seen through Joe's eyes, but Paul Garnet,Nina's driver, also tells part of the tale.
