Sobre este artículo

London: William Heinemann, 1919. Leather. Good. 8.5" by 6". None. A later edition of The Garden of Kama by Laurence Hope. Bound in half leather with gilt lettering and decoration. Bound by Hatchards, with a bookbinders ink stamp to the front pastedown. Adela Florence Nicolson, 1865 – 1904, was an English poet who wrote under the pseudonym Laurence Hope. Adela married Colonel Malcolm Hassels Nicolson, commandant of the 3rd Baluchi Regiment in April 1889. A talented linguist, he introduced her to his love of India and native customs and food, which she began to share. "Her first volume of poetry, The Garden of Kama and other Love Lyrics from India, was published in 1901. Generally reviewed as the work of a man, it attracted enormous attention and was repeatedly reissued every year for the next fourteen years. While the substance of the poems is not drawn from any identifiable Indian source, the exotic settings emphasized a passionate intensity which was seen as oriental. The influence of Swinburne and the Pre-Raphaelites can also be discerned in this and later works" -ODNB. Bound in half leather with gilt lettering and decoration. The front hinge is cracked but still generally firm. There is some wear to the extremities, including some rubbing, with sunning to the spine. There is an ink signature on the front free-endpaper. The binding is tight and firm. Internally the pages are generally bright with occasional scattered spots. Overall the condition is good, with a very good interior. Good
