First edition, the scarce (250 copies) issue without the additional South African imprint, presentation copy, inscribed on front fly-leaf by the author to Violet Milner, 'with affection', dated Cape Town, November 1924. Violet Milner was an influential socialite and wife of one of the most important movers and shakers of South African history, the High Commissioner from 1897 to 1905, Alfred Milner. The author Dorothea Farbridge was one of pillars of South African high-society and campaigned for closer integration of South Africa into the British Empire. Inman 683.
