A perfectly serviceable reference copy, a set complete in two volumes; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy, of the Everyman's Library edition, #527, of the classic epic romance by Francois Rabelais. Short, squat hardcover format, bound in blue cloth over boards, sharp and distinct copper lettering to each spine. Decorated endpapers front and rear. "Francois Rabelais, born in Touraine about 1494. Before 1530, when he graduated in medicine, he hd been in both Franciscan and Benedictine monasteries. Appointed physician at the Hotel-Dieu at Lyons. In 1534 went to Italy under patrongage of Cardinal Jean du Bellay, and passed his life partly there and partly in Paris until 1550, when he was made Cure of Meudon. Left Meudon in 1552 and died, probably in 1553, in Paris." Volume One: xxii, [2], 3--360 pp.; Volume Two: x, 1-362 pp.; followed by a list of other Everyman Library titles.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
