London: Printed only for a few friends, 1881. Wraps. Very good. 12pp. Printed wrappers. The fragile wrappers are chipped at edges and have been reinforced at the spine; the text block is in near fine condition.
In blue card chemise and slipcase.
According to Carter and Pollard, this title "conforms to our forger's formula (type style and paper) and is highly suspicious." It was later confirmed to be a forgery.
Wise parlayed his international reputation into a career in creating and selling forgeries. Carter and Pollard proved that a large number of rare first edition pamphlets from 19th century authors which depended solely on Wise's published works for their authenticity were fakes.
