First published in 1790, Bewick's first work of natural history, the book became an immediate success on account of the striking wood engravings depicting clearly and in considerable detail live animals mostly in their natural surroundings. This handsome copy comes from the Bagbrooke Hall Library, according to a handwritten note on a loosely inserted cutting from the [Northampton?] Chronicle & Echo of early 1974.
