Sobre este artículo

New York: Towse Publishing Company / The Furniture World, 1938. Hardcover. Folio. Burgundy and tan cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. (Ca. 250pp), 99pp pictorial advertisements. Extensive full-page illustrations and diagrams. Near fine/good. Volume itself quite tight and bright, while jacket is edgeworn and rubbed, with some edge chips. Superbly handsome first edition of this facsimile reprint of the 1762 London third edition published by the author, to which is added a "Supplement: A Gallery of Chippendale Furniture and a Sketch of Chippendale's Life and Works" by Walter Rendell Storey. This is an exceptional presentation copy, for the front flyleaf bears a huge, bold inscription and signature from "Sandy" Bienenstock (1902-88), publisher of "Furniture World" magazine; he began collecting furniture books in 1922 and in 1970 he and wife Bernice founded the Bienenstock Furniture Library in High Point, North Carolina. He writes in blue ballpoint: "To my friend / Jim Richardson / who is following / the fine heritage / of the Richardson family / in the wonderful world / of furniture. / with fondest regards / 'Sandy' Bienenstock / This is the first American Edition of the Chippendale Book that / was presented to your father in 1938." English cabinetmaker Chippendale (1718-89) first published thislandmark influential volume in 1754 and his name became synonymous with his mid-Georgian period high style. Another printing exists in blue cloth, though the priority is unclear.
