First Edition; Demy 8vo; pp. 224 (last colophon only); frontispiece large folding map (short tears without loss and a couple of small tape marks), bound in original fine pebble-grained green cloth, title lettered in gilt on spine, gilt stamped decoration on upper board of a view of the Mt. Olga, cloth a little worn good copy. Ferguson 9912 noting only the brown cloth binding. The Melbourne edition of Gile's journal was published under the patronage of Ferdinand von Mueller to help Giles raise capital for further expeditions and was issued in large part for presentation to those who supported his exploratory work.
