Laid-In: personal printed paper "Season's Greetings" bookmark of noted Oregon/Arizona/Washington State poet and children's author, Elizabeth Lambert Wood". The bookseller obtained this book from Elizabeth Lambert Wood's own book collection. Elizabeth Lambert Wood (1871- 1962), was an early Oregon writer whose books were widely read during her lifetime. Elizabeth married William L. Wood, and they had a son, Lambert (1895-1918)

Lambert Wood was a student at Williams College when in 1916 he joined the U.S. Army and rose to be First Lieutenant. After leading a series of attacks which blocked the German third offensive, he was killed in action in the Aisne-Marne offensive. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. The citation stated that "With entire disregard for personal danger, Lieutenant Wood passed through heavy artillery fire with a message to stop misdirected supporting artillery fire, which fire imperiled the safely of his organization. He was killed near Soissons while leading his machine-gun platoon on a flank movement against an enemy group which was enfilading our advancing infantry line on July 15, 1918." Posthumously he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and also the Croix de guerre with Gold Star.

His professor, Herdman F. Cleland wrote his mother sending her the essay on the geology of the Tucson region, which had a small print run in 1919.
