Sobre este artículo
Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1964. First edition. Octavo, original pale gray cloth stamped in blue, photographic endpapers, uncut, original dust jacket. Small abrasion, gentle creasing and wear to corners and spine ends of unclipped dust jacket. Very good indeed.
First edition of this "lively narrative history of one of the country's earliest colleges" by the distinguished Jesuit historian and longtime member of the Georgetown faculty. The United States of America and Georgetown University, both established in 1789, essentially grew up together after the nation's capital was situated in Washington, D.C. This history was prepared by Father Joseph Durkin to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the founding of the college by Archbishop John Carroll. Composed of a Foreword (Robert I. Gannon, S.J.), Acknowledgments (George H. Dunne, S.J./Director, 17th Anniversary Program), The History, Presidents of Georgetown, Alma Mater. Abundantly illustrated with a color frontispiece portrait of Archbishop Carroll (after Gilbert Stuart) and numerous black-and-white sketches and photographs.
