The Weavers (1892) raises social and moral issues of the misery of craftsmen as factories take over; it is the drama of a group rather than that of an individual. Hannele (1893) tells of an abused child's dying delirium, rendered in terms of her readings of fairy tales and the Bible. And, The Beaver Coat (1893) is a picaresque satire on Prussian bureaucracy in which a washerwoman discovers honest work alone is not a recipe for success in life.
