Bound in light blue cloth patterned in blindstamp, color cameo illustration mounted on front board along with stamped gilt lettering; gilt lettering on spine. Light stain to lower fore-edge corner; dust soiling to top edge. In the color illustrated dust jacket that shows light wear. First edition of this mystery featuring heroine Molly Morgenthau, housed in the uncommon early dust jacket depicting a Gibson girl telephone operator, illustrated by Frederick Tomlan. That image is repeated in the cameo on the front board. HUBIN, p. 41. Scarce in dust jacket, which is now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
