Edges stained by tobacco. Mylar protected. Gilt lettering, silver metallic design debossed ecru, cloth-covered spine, and front of maroon boards. Clean, bright, tight. 309 pp. Author's first book and first-prize winner in the O. Henry Collection. Hemenway reveals characters detached from themselves.
