Sobre este artículo

1934. Early days in Madison County, Kentucky, are recalled in this new 89-page book titled: Madison County, Kentucky, USA The spiral-bound book is a compiled from three hard to find sources: the 1934 book, A Glimpse at Historic Madison County and Richmond, Kentucky by Jonathan Truman Dorris, plus excerpts from Kentucky, a Guide to the Bluegrass State, a 1939 product of the WPA Writer's Program, and History of Kentucky by Z.F. Smith, originally published in 1895. The tri-color front cover is printed on 80# card stock and has been protected with a vinyl sheet. The text is printed single-sided on 60# opaque paper, with the print enlarged to fit the 8.5" x 11" paper and improve readability. Daniel Boone is "the most famous pioneer connected with the history of Madison County." Much of his history and many of his exploits are included, especially those relating to the fort at Boonesborough, along with various memorials in his honor. Other subjects include: Round Hill, a relic of the Mound Builders; Transylvania Colony; the Wilderness Road; Sycamore Hollow; the creation of the county in 1785; the City of Richmond; General Green Clay, Cassius Marcellus Clay and White Hall estate; the Battle of Richmond in 1862 and Jones' Tavern, where Gen. U.S. Grant stayed; Waco and Bybee Pottery; the United States Trachoma Hospital; Churches; Berea College -- "a monument to the anti-slavery sentiment of the South", Central University, and Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College; Old Kentucky Homes; Madison County Firsts in Kentucky; Kit Carson, Justice Samuel Freeman and other distinguished natives of Madison County; Distinguished citizens who weren't natives of the county; Richmond Cemetery; and the Daniel Boone Bicentennial. The Smith excerpt gives a lively account of the Seige of Boonesborough, along with more information on Boone's background and the founding of Boonesborough. The WPA excerpt includes information on Richmond, Castlewood estate, Berea and Berea College, and Boonesboro. The booklet has many illustrations including a sketch of the fort at Boonesborough, the Courthouse, the Federal Court Building and Postoffice, White Hall, the Solomon Smith house, the John Speed Smith House, Woodlawn, Clay's Ferry Bridge, the U.S. Grant House, Berea College and State Teachers College buildings, and many portraits. . Limited Edition Reprint. Spiral/Comb . New/No Jacket. 8.5" x 11". Private Press.
