London: Raphael Tuck. London, Raphael Tuck, n.d. [1915 BL]. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy, in the rare box. Collected, I imagine, for the Conan Doyle introduction rather than for colonial nostalgia. When I picked up the book the previous owner challenged me to find another copy in the box. I didn't undertake his challenge as it seemed dull and if I'm going on a quest you better believe that there'll be dragons and unicorns involved. That said, I imagine there was some merit to his challenge so I urge you to undertake it. The book, without doubt celebrating England's slaughter and colonising across the face of the otherwise somewhat content world, has some heavy rubbing to the corners and a little chipping. The spine is faded and spotted and the rear board is worn. Nice inscription reading 'With love from Papa Xmas 1930' - presumably there should be a comma between 'Papa' and 'Xmas', as I'm sure a book signed by the big man himself would be highly sought and it's unlikely that he referred to himself as Papa. The box is in pretty good shape, with some tearing and wear. Somewhat toned. A couple of dealer's prices in pencil. Illustrations by Harry Payne [6407, Hyraxia Books]. n.d. [1915 BL] . Very Good. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1915.
