DJ has a couple of small tears in upper right corner of front and appears to have been immersed in water, so has some rippling and discoloration on underside of DJ, but is otherwise totally intact. Owner's name written on front end paper. Book has a little sunning on edges but shows no other signs of wear or use, very clean and tight. Story of Ariston, a Spartan youth, who is captured by the Athenians, and later comes to be a powerful man in his new home, and a friend to Socrates and Euripides. Written by one of the foremost, and first, African-American novelists, a prolific author of many exciting stories of human love, hate, struggle and the pain that is life. ; 8vo ; 469 pages .
