Classic collection of stories by the humorist, Jean Shepherd (1922-1999) about his childhood growing up in Indiana in the 1930s. Two stories from the collection, "Duel in the Snow" and "My Old Man and the Lascivious Special Award" became the pivotal plot threads in the beloved 1983 holiday classic, "A Christmas Story." Inscribed boldly by Shepherd in blue ink on the half-title page. Scarce. First Printing. 264 pp. 8vo. Slight scuffing to dust jacket, small small chips at corners, 1-1/2" closed tear at the head of the spine and running a little diagonally on the front cover of the dust jacket, some staining on verso, now in mylar cover. Blue cloth boards with black cloth spine; blue printed endpapers and deckled foredge. Clean within.
