London: James Phillips, 1790. Later edition of one of the earliest and most famous American shipwreck accounts. Barrow was a Quaker missionary on route from Jamaica to Philadelphia. His ship, the "Reformation," wrecked off the Florida coast. The survivors were captured by Indians - characterized on the title page as inhuman Cannibals of Florida - and eventually made their way to Charleston. The first edition of this account was published in 1699. Though reprinted several times after its initial Philadelphia appearance, all early editions are scarce. This one is listed in Howes as an aa.
