William Chalfant was a long time editor of the Inyo Register in Bishop, CA. His family were one of the ‘forty-niners' and the Chalfant Valley was named after them. The stories in this book cover three regions and periods - "... the western Sierra slopes of the first Gold Rush, the California-Nevada border of subsequent diggings, and the region farther north that became Nevada's Comstock Lode.".
