This is the first best-selling golf book, written by famous club-maker Robert Forgan in St. Andrews, Scotland. The book was first published as The Golfer's Handbook from 1891-1897? when the title changed to The Golfer's Manual. This edition contains a preface by Forgan which notes that this edition has been "brought up to date" since the sixth edition with new illustrations, and newly available golf information supplied. Page [iv] notes a record-tying score at St. Andrews Links by James Anderson, 18 August 1906, which offers a hint for the date of this edition. The text includes lists of champion golfers and scores, rules on golfing honor and etiquette, a chapter on Shakespeare on golf, rules for the game of golf, and more.
