Professor George Wille (1880-1965), read for his B.A.LLB. at Cambridge. Returning to South Africa in 1903, he was a member of the Transvaal Bar for 18 years, where he practiced as an advocate. He became the first full-time professor of law at University of Cape Town in 1920, holding the chair until 1945, and lecturing chiefly on Roman-Dutch law. Many judges in South Africa and Rhodesia studied under him. Wille was one of the best-known legal writers in South Africa. He was known for his liberal outlook and for his support of equal legal rights to South Africa's underprivileged classes. 006-3

Alton B. Parker, (born May 14, 1852, Cortland, N.Y., U.S.—died May 10, 1926, New York, N.Y.), American jurist and Democratic presidential nominee in 1904, defeated by the incumbent, Theodore Roosevelt. wiki.
Having practiced law in Kingston, N.Y., Parker was elected surrogate of Ulster county in 1877 and reelected six years later. He was appointed to the New York Supreme Court in 1885, the state Appeals Court in 1889, and the appellate division of the state Supreme Court in 1896. From 1898 to 1904 Parker was chief justice of the New York Court of Appeals. On the bench, he was noted for upholding the rights of labour and acquired a reputation for fairness, competence, and courtesy. He was persuaded to run for President. but was defeated, taking only 38 percent of the popular vote and winning 140 electoral votes to Roosevelt's 336. The trial of Madame Euphemie Lacoste (b. 1819), whose family forced her to marry her 68-year-old great uncle Henri Lacoste in 1841. When he died suddenly and his body was found to contain arsenic, she was arrested and tried for murder, along with 70-year-old schoolmaster Joseph Meilhan, to whom she had given a minor pension. They were acquitted because of insufficient evidence (the traces of arsenic in Lacoste's blood may have been due to treatment for syphilis). Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: light foxing on half title page; otherwise, clean and solid.

Dustjacket in overall Very Good minus condition, two enclosed rips along the seam of the front panel, spine end extremities chipped, top spine is chipped, light overall aging; looks very good in brodart protective sleeve. The dustjacket is printing on low quality paper, it's nice to find one in any condition. "Ellington Air Force Base; Ground Safety Deps; Dec. 1953" is penned in lead based ink on the ffep and grounds the history on this piece. One lead based ink dot that bleeds through page 47 to 48, top edge lightly toned, else pages are clean & unmarked. Included to the photographic illustrations in the book are pictures of men in uniform representing all 50 states, photographs of police vehicles of that day, a early Texas Ranger on horseback & more. Every leaf of text is interleaves with a blank leaf for notes; in this volume the blank leaves remained blank. Former owner's inscription on front fixed endpaper: Warren G. Light, Lebanon, Pa. "Warren G. Light" is also written at head of the title page. Stamped on front free endpaper: "Meyer, Brubaker & Lewis Law Offices, Lebanon, Pennsylvania." This was probably Alvin B. Lews, esq., a grandson of Warren G. Light, esq., of Lebanon, Pa. Tipped onto the back free endpaper is a printed leaf with Uniform Rates recommended by the Commercial Law League of America at its 23rd Annual Convention in 1917.
