Issues for Oct. 1971 - Nov. 1974 lack volume and issue numbering but constitute v.1, #1 - v.4, #2. Volume numbering begins with v.4, #3 (Dec. 1974). The Gay People's Academic Union grew out of a University of a Wisconsin-Milwaukee student organization the Gay Liberation Organization which first met in 1970. The GPU was founded in 1971 and opened the first Gay & Lesbian Community Center.
