San Francisco: The Book Club of California, 1931. First Edition. First Edition. Folio, 14 x 19 3/4 inches. 272 pages, printed in black and red on hand-made paper, illustrated with two maps and a series of 17 drawings by H. M. T. Powell. Publisher's polished light brown cloth and quarter morocco leather spine (tan). The Club's Christmas publication, limited to 300 copies, the design, printing and binding of which have been done by the The Grabhorn Press. A beautiful copy, in fine condition, seldom found and much less in fine condition, owing to its size and weight. Mounted on to the front paste down is a full-page Announcement for the book, and laid in is printed note by the club declaring that the American Institute of Graphic Arts chose this book, printed by the Grabhorn Press, for inclusion in the "Fifty Books of the Year," for 1932. Written in pencil on front fly: "Bought from John Howell, San Francisco, 1934." Housed in a superb marbled paper-lined folding cloth book case.
