Sobre este artículo

London: A. Cobbett, 1838. Cloth. Good. 7.5" by 4.5". Not Stated. An early edition of this fascinating snapshot of language and grammar, written as a series of letters and published during the early 18th century. A Grammar of the English Language was written by William Cobbett, who was a champion of the poor, and taught himself to read and write. It is written as a series of letters, including analysis of etymology, examples of adjectives, verbs, pronouns, and adverbs, as well as information on syntax in relation to parts of speech. This work was intended for the use of schools and young people in general. However, it was especially for the use of soldiers, sailors, apprentices and plough-boys. An early edition of this work, originally printed in London in 1819. Containing an advertisement for Anne Cobbett's English Housekeeper tipped into the front, and twelve pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. In the original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Some scuffing and chipping to the paper covered boards, with general shelf wear. Staining to the spine, and some loss to the spine label. Internally, generally firmly bound. A previous owner's pencil signature to the table of contents page, and a few instances of light spotting or handling marks to the pages, which are otherwise generally clean. Good
