Johann Georg Rosenmüller (18 December 1736 – 14 March 1815), a German Protestant theologian, was born at Ummerstadt in Hildburghausen, on 18 December 1736. He was appointed Professor of Theology at Erlangen in 1773, Primarius Professor of Theology at Erlangen in 1773, Primarius Professor of Divinity at Giessen in 1783, and was called in 1785 to Leipzig, where he remained until his death in 1815.

Based on historical records and details and information that can be found in this book, we can conclude, although not with absolute certainty, that this book contains the work that was commissioned, edited and reviewed by Peter the Great himself in Saint Alexander Nevsky Lavra [monastery] in St. Petersburg as an explanatory part of the Gospel Beautitudes. There is some indication that the work might have been written by Archbishop Theophan Prokopovich. Pritius left numerous philosophical and theological dissertations. This is first edition of one of these dissertations which was long used after his death and last reissued in 1764.

Mid 18th century Church history written in Latin. Author of the study is Johann Lorenz von Mosheim, German Lutheran church historian. His first appearance in the field of literature was in a polemical tract against John Toland. This work is titled "Vindiciae antiquae christianorum disciplinae" and it was published in 1720. Year later a volume of "Observationes sacrae" followed it. These works secured for him a call to the University of Helmstedt. There he gained a title "professor ordinarius" in 1723. The "Institutionum historiae ecclesiasticae libri IV" appeared in 1726. In the same year, he was appointed by the duke of Brunswick abbot of Marienthal. This is one of the more important works regarding church history in Luteranism.

A rare and beautiful copy of Orthodox Evangelion with luxury purple velvet binding with brass clasps and corner and center ornaments. Woodcut printed text and hand-colored illustrations. The book contains multiple hand inscriptions that are only partially legible.The pencil inscription on the front flyleaf contains references to Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, as well as the years: 1911 and 1914. It is possible that the text in some way refers to the Bosnian crisis which served as a prelude to WWI. But, since we have not been able to translate the entire text, we cannot be certain of the context.
