The Nobel Prizewinner's First Edition/First Printing combines four short novels. The Grandmothers tells of two middle-aged friends who fall in love with each other's sons. Victoria and the Staveneys tells the story of a mixed-race child and her struggle with heritage. A Reason For It has the leader of a declining culture explaining their loss of glory. A Love Child relates the story of an ex-soldier haunted by a conviction he left a love child behind during the Second World War. A beautiful series of novellas from this great writer.
