Octavo (19.5cm.); original blue pictorial cloth stamped in pale yellow to upper cover, spine lettered in white, variant D as described in BAL with publisher's name in upper and lower case letters, rear cover unstamped, top edge gilt; [4],459pp. Extremities a bit rubbed, textblock somewhat shaken in binding. Housed in custom cloth chemise and matching morocco-backed cloth slipcase, gilt-lettered spine in six compartments. A Very Good copy overall. The author's first book (preceded by a broadside, ca. 1886), and the first in the Graustark series. BAL 13501; SMITH M-121.
