HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents THE GREAT DECLARATION by American historian HENRY STEELE COMMAGER, who helped define Modern liberalism in the United States for two generations through his 40 books and 700 essays and reviews. The illustrator DONALD BOLOGNESE is an accomplished artist and calligrapher who has taught art at Cooper Union, New York University, the Pratt Institute, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's medieval museum, the Cloisters. He has illustrated more than 90 books for children, many of which he wrote himself. 6 1/2" x 9 1/4", 112 pages, including index, notes, and many b/w illustrations. The ORIGINAL UNCLIPPED DUST JACKET is included with this STATED FIRST EDITION. Overall condition of the book is NEAR FINE. Pages (endpapers contain Bolognese illustrations of American Soldier uniforms in the Revolution) = Fine: slight yellowing, check mark penned on first fep, else tight, sharp, very clear, standout illustrations (including 2 full page b/w reproductions of paintings), no additional marks. Cover (blue cloth boards with particulars in gold gilt) = Near Fine: bit of sunning around edges, bit of chipping on top front edge, else tight, sharp, clear, square. ORIGINAL DUST JACKET (2 tone blue paper with full page illustration of celebrating Eighteenth Century Americans, particulars in yellow and white) = Very Good Plus: foxing to reverse side, bit of chipping to top and bottom spine and top front edge, bit of dulling from rubbing, penciled index number on back, else clear, very colorful, entire.
