Large format trade paperback published by The Barnes Foundation, Knopf, and Lincoln University Press. A first edition, fourth printing, this is the edition with Matisse's 'The Red Madras Headress' on the cover. Published to accompany the exhibit of the same name of the unparalleled collection of Dr. Albert Barnes. 320 reproductions, 151 in full color and 3 six page fold out sections. This copy shows very little ear, there are no creases to the cover or spine, no writing, no former ownership marks. The text is clean, the binding is tight and square. Wear is limited to a few dots of age foxing to the edge of the text block. Featured are Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and Early Modern paintings from Manet, Cezanne, van Gogh, Seurat, Picasso, Braque, Soutine, Modigliani, Matisse and others, with essays analyzing the work of each artist. Also included is a history of the Barnes Foundation. Contributors include Richard Glanton, Niara Sudarkasa, Earl A. Powell, Richard Wannmaker, Anne Distel, Charles Moffett, and Jeffrey Weiss. This is a large heavy weight book that will be mailed out in a sturdy box.
