Los Angeles: Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr.. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1923. Softcover. Tabloid format newspapers, folded at center, illustrated with many photographs. Home Edition. The third issue published omits the volume and issue number from the masthead. ; 11-1/2" x 18"; 32 pp; The first four issues of this newspaper happened to coincide with news of the earthquake of September 1st between Yokohama and Tokyo. The quake and aftershocks caused significant damage and these first issues contain much news and many photographs to report on the events. The first issue also contains some adverts welcoming Mr. Vanderbilt to Los Angeles. Further, the first issue cover notes "The Largest Paid Circulation Any Newspaper Ever Started With". This was his first newspaper venture, and lasted under his ownership until 1926 when it went into receivership. It was taken over by Manchester Boddy who ran it until 1954 and ceased operations in 1956. [Wikipedia] ; Many short tears, generally well preserved. .
