Front cover has gold facsimile of author's signature. Corners and spine ends bumped. Covers lightly rubbed. Front cover has a small dent at fore edge. Deckle fore and bottom edges. Tissued photogravure frontispiece. Tissue is browned and has left brown stain on title page. 10 black and white photographs on tipped in plates. One plate is upside-down. Binding generally tight, but beginning to crack just a little after half-title page. Name and note in ink on front free endpaper. There is a brown rectangular stain between two pages. Nine pages of text have some underlining and notations in red pencil. Index also has three red pencil marks. Small mark on rear free endpaper. With a memoir by Caroline Henderson Griffiths and an Introduction by Hilaire Belloc 230 pages. No dust jacket. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
